The Dupont Dynos
A Neighborhood Car Club
Recent Meeting Notes

Next Meeting:
Our next two meetings will be on Wednesdays, March 10th and April 14th, 2010, at    7:00 pm, at McNamara's Pub and Grill, located
at 1595 Wilmington Drive, DuPont, WA 98327.  If you wish, arrive at 6pm to order dinner, and/or socialize with the club members.

DuPont Dynos Car Club Meeting Notes for Wednesday, February 11, 2010

The meeting came to some kind of order at about 7PM, with nine members and one guest. Our guest was Mike Arneson, who picked up on the Club from a flyer and talking with Ken at last weekend’s Corvette High-Perf. Swap meet at the Puyallup Fairgrounds. Mike is an old Hot-Rodder from Lacey and considering the Club.

Old Business:

We began the agenda with a report from Steve on the Club Plaque we are designing to go up the McNamara’s stating we “meet there on the second Wed. of the month” etc, etc. Steve is preparing a layout for management to consider. Steve will finish the layout when the Club’s new Logo is complete. More on that later in the notes.

Next we got an update from Jim on the summer Cruise-In schedule, to include some info on new signage. Again, the new Logo will be prominent on that new signage. Jim also weighed-in with a SHEF Car Show report. First meeting is Feb 20, 10AM. Participants will get an email. Show date is July 18th . Dynos will again participate.

Ken reported on Flyers for our Cruise-In schedule. Though some have been distributed, some additions and corrections are being made to the flyer and new ones will be made. New logo AND some exciting NEW IDEAS added to this year’s Cruise-Ins and SHEF participation. More later in the notes.

We discuss our participation in the DuPont and Steilacoom 4th of July Parades. Yes, we will and the date is the 4th of July……

Chris reported on a possible mini-car show at Patriots Landing in DuPont. Dates etc. need to be worked out will their party planner. Chris will get back with us.

I report on a call I made to Denise Dhane (former organizer of Military Appreciation Day – DuPont), Denise sent me to Amy Walker of the City’s office. Amy and I have not connected, but Denise thinks the Mil Appr Day this year may be July 4th. Consequently we may have some juggling to do to hit Parades in both cities and have a small showing in Mil Appr Day. Also, that event may be conducted at the Clock Tower Park, not Civic Center, as it was last year. More to come.

Logo Discussion. As reported last month, with the help of Frank Bonner’s son Jack, a new concept for the Club Logo was presented and voted on. We really like what Jack provided and after some “reflection” a couple of members brought some minor modification to the discussion. Much talk ensued. So, your President, being the diplomat he is, decided to form a committee to flesh-out and consider all the suggestions and get the thing “put to bed”, so to speak. (my notes are really on a roll tonight) The committee (Steve, Jim, Ken and the diplomat) will meet in a couple of weeks and finalize the new bug once and for all. When finish, I’ll send out for all to see.
[Note:  The committee has created the new logo, and it will be revealed March 10th]

New Business:

Next, we discuss producing new T-shirts, a banner and possibly ball caps with the new logo. More to come.

Financial Report:

Harold our Treasurer reported dues coffers at $50. In Savings, $700.57 in Checking (which included $200. Taken in during the meeting in dues)

NEW IDEAS: As mentioned above, Gary brought up and “offered” to support a Club “Bash-a-Car” event, to raise $$for the Club. After some good discussion, we decided the best venue for it would be in conjunction with the SHEF show. Jim and Bruce will check with SHEF and the City of Steilacoom. Gary will get the “donor” car and we will split the proceeds with SHEF. Something like two bucks a whack, should bring some dollars for SHEF and us and be a hell of a lot of fun.

Another great Gary idea . . . . a “Win a Car raffle”, sponsored by the Dynos. Again, Gary has volunteered to get a donated car, we would sell raffle tickets at our June, July and August Cruise-Ins, with a drawing at the Sept C-I. With much publicity and fan-fare on our new Cruise-In flyers, we hope to cause excitement, cover expenses and make some real $$$for the Club. Gary will begin arrangements. This is going to be great!

Upcoming Events of Interest:

This coming weekend (Sat/Sun, Feb 13/14), again at the Puyallup Fairgrounds, the Tacoma Early Bird Swapmeet. I think admission is $5.00, maybe less for you seniors.

Next big show is probably the Mild to Wild at the T-dome. (23-25 April) Our own Gary is now a big wig for that show, so let’s turn out. It’s always a good one!! And don’t forget the local Cruise-Ins, like Buck’s A&W Port Orchard – Weds, April thru Sept., Friday Nights in Covington –May to Sept., etc….

Next Meeting:

Wednesday, March 10th, McNamara’s in DuPont. As always . . . . 6pm for dinner (they have some pretty good food and beers) 7PM meeting time. BE THERE!!!
-Rick

DuPont Dynos Car Club Meeting Notes – Wednesday, January 13, 2010

The meeting came to order at about 7PM, with ten members in attendance. We began with an update on the Website from Ken. Next we continued our discussion on the new Dues structure we voted on in November.  Here are the details. The By-Laws have to amended.

Beginning January 1, 2010 Club dues are $100.00 annually, with dues do quarterly (January, April, July and October) in the amount of $25.00. Bring your quarterly check to the monthly meeting or mail to Treasurer, Harold Schmidt at 2084 McDonald Avenue DuPont, WA 98327. The By-Laws still include a one month grace period for members in good standing.

Next, we continued our discussion from November, about “marketing” the Club. Steve talked with McNamara’s about put up a sign/plaque in the lobby “DuPont Dynos Car Club meets here, third Wednesday of the month … etc”. McNamara’s is open to this, we need to show them a layout. Steve will prepare the layout. Jim mentioned also talking with Farrelli's/McNamara's management about holding our summer Cruise-Ins in their parking lot this year. And, that new signage would be needed. Farrelli's is open to their parking lot and might be providing dinning discounts as an insensitive. More on these subjects as summer approaches.

Speaking of Spring and Summer Events. Next we talked about and decided to conduct another Cruise-In season. This year we will again do June, July, August and September events at Farrelli’s on the last Thursday nights. Jim “volunteered” to be Cruise-In committee chairperson. We also committed to the Club supporting the 2010 SHEF By The Bay Car Show. Details to come. We will also again participate in both DuPont and Steilacoom Fourth of July Parades. Mark your calendars!

We talked about a couple of additional events. One, Chris will contact Patriots Landing about conducting a small “Car Show” for the residents (PL is a DuPont retirement facility) and I’m going to get a in touch with the organizers of DuPont Military Appreciation Day. We participated with a few cars last year. We may try to up it this year. More to come.

We also reviewed new logo designs provided by Frank’s son Jack. Jack is a Graphic Designer and did some great layouts. After some discussion (and an email with Jack, who is currently in Alaska!) we decided/voted on a new DuPont Dynos Car Club logo. Thanks JACK BONNER for a great new Updated look for the Club!!!! See the attachment to this email.

So, for Steve – the new sign for McNamara’s, and for Jim and Ken – new flyers and Cruise-In signage.

UPCOMING EVENTS for your Information: February 6-7 is Corvette and Hi-Perf. Swap meet, Puyallup… February 7 is also Next Generation Auto Exhibition, Puyallup … February 13-14 is Tacoma Early Bird Swap meet, Puyallup. Check Cruise In magazine on-line, OldTimers Northwest and Baxter’s Auto Parts for more events coming this spring and summer.

I think that’s about it.
Next Meeting, Wednesday February 10th, McNamara’s in DuPont, 6PM for dinner, 7PM meeting time.

December 2009 Meeting Notes:
We had  a fun Holiday Dinner and gift exchange.  Many members brought spouses and family members, and there were over 20 people in all.  Rick updated us on the generous donations and gift baskets that had been given by the Club this season to local families in need.  Nice job everyone!

November 2009 Meeting Notes:
We met at McNamera's in DuPont on Wednesday, November 11th
It was a pretty standard run of the mill meeting, however we did vote and
pass a couple of very important initiatives.

First and foremost: With the unanimous vote of those present (a quorum) the Club has changed the dues and dues structure.

Here is a summary. Beginning January 2010, Club dues are $25.00 per quarter year, or $100. annually. You can pay quarterly or annually at the beginning of the year. (January) I will update the By-Laws and get a copy out, via email. I will also bring some copies to the next meeting for those who like old fashion "hard copies".

Speaking of next meeting ... those present decided our December meeting
would be a Holiday Social and we will conduct it a little differently.

Here the scoop.  The Meeting will be at McNamera's in DuPont, on Wednesday, December 9th. Spouses and/or "significant others" are welcome as well. We won't have any business agenda, but instead socialize, have dinner and finish up with a little Member's Gift Exchange. Each member should purchase and wrap a "car" related item, max. of approximately $10.00.

I need to let McNamera's know the number having dinner. It will be ordered
from the menu, so you can have whatever you like.
RSVP to me or Chris by Monday December 7th, with number coming and if you
will be ordering from the menu.

If you come just to socialize, have a drink and participate in the gift
exchange, that's Ok, just let me know!! I will send out a reminder.

Finally, in the spirit of the Holiday Season, the Members present, voted to make contributions to the local community. Here is what we have done. First, the club made a donation of $100.00 to the holiday food baskets program with the "Warrior, Veteran and Family Readiness Service Support" group at Camp Murray. This idea is a part of our club's expressed Mission Statement.  The baskets will be distributed to deserving families within the DuPont, Steilacoom, Lakewood and Lacey area. The Club also made contact with "Operation Make a Soldier Smile" and purchased personal and foods items in the amount of $100.00 to be included in the holiday gift packages being mailed to Soldiers serving overseas.

That's it for now. Have a great Thanksgiving Holiday. Hope to see you all in December.

Rick

October 2009 Meeting Notes:
The meeting was held on Wednesday, October 14th, at McNamara's Restaurant in Dupont at 7 PM.

VP Chris Spurbeck led the meeting in the absence of President Rick Patterson. Chris indicated that Rick had  surgery the day before and was recovering nicely.

We were introduced to new club member, Pedro Gonzalez. Pedro is in the military and stationed at Ft. Lewis. He's the owner of a 2006 Pontiac GTO.

Chris went over some of this year's achievements which included the 4th of July parades in Dupont and Steilacoom, having a display at the military appreciation day,  our club's participation in the SHEF car show, and our 4 cruise ins.

We discussed the last cruise in and although many club members had other commitments, found that we had a decent turnout.

Frank mentioned that there had been some previous discussion on sponsoring a military family for a Christmas dinner.  After further discussion, we determined that rather than sponsor a military family, it would be a better gesture to support a needy family or several needy families in the Lakewood-Dupont area. Jim suggested that Chris talk this over with Rick and that by next meeting we should propose to the club where any donations should be made.

We discussed having a Christmas function where our spouses or significant others could attend. We would have a gift exchange with the gifts (per couple) having a limit of about $10 and being car related. It was suggested that this function be part of the December meeting.

We brought up the subject of membership dues.  It was discussed that with an increase in revenue, it would allow us to do more things as a club or sponsor bigger events.  It was proposed that we raise the membership dues to $100/year.  We postponed the vote until next meeting to allow anybody who was not present to cast their vote at the next meeting.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, at 7 PM at McNamara's ( or 6 PM for anybody who wants dinner). Steve indicated that he has reserved the back room for us and that McNamara's has made it available for us on the 2nd Wednesday of every month.

September Meeting Notes:
Thanks to those who attended the Sept. meeting held at McNamara's in DuPont Wednesday night. McNamara's worked out pretty well and Steve has arranged for us to meet there in October. The meeting will be Wednesday, October 14th, 6PM for diners, 7PM meeting starts. We'll be in the private meeting room.

Old Business: Frank and Jim reported on their attending the Spokane Good
Guys show. We also talked about the success of our Club's August 27th
Cruise-In at Farrelli's. 4 (or 5) Club cars and equally important 10 or so non-club guest with cars attended as well. Sounds as though some guest may turn into members. Thanks everyone for putting on a great Cruise-In.

Harold reported financials and I believe the number was about $715.00 in the club coffers. (Sorry Harold, I didn't write it down)

I reported the New Club banner has been ordered and will be ready this week. It larger than our original and has out website on it. Speaking of the website ... take the time and visit, Ken is doing a great job in updating. Also he can also use your help by sending pictures and info of interest.

We had some discuss about ways to increase the club's revenue, including
raising dues. It was proposed that we consider $20.00 a quarter, or $80.00 a year. One of the important things more revenue will provide is opportunity to sponsor bigger events, including community "donation" event and the like. More discussion coming, but for sure look for a vote on increased dues. It's time to get serious people. The Club is growing and needs to go to the next level.

We also discussed having a Christmas activity of some kind. Maybe a meeting with potluck, gift exchange, raffle and/or ...?   Let's get out the October meeting and get something planned.

New Business: We decided to go ahead with the September 24th Cruise-In. It will be held at Farrelli's and begin at 4:30. Let's get out and support the Club.

Next Meeting: Wednesday October 14th, McNamara's in Dupont. BE THERE!!!
Pres.....

Schedule Note:
At the June meeting, all the members present decided that our regular monthly meeting date shall be changed to the Second WEDNESDAY of Each Month.  This change has been endorsed by our Club President, and will take effect in August, 2009.  Meetings from this point forward will be on Wednesdays, August 12, September 9, and so on.
Thank You!

July Meeting Notes:
Tuesday, July 14th, Bur's Restaurant, 7PM

Old Business: (Past Events)
We talked the success, and some challenges, with our first Cruise-In. A communication problem with Farrelli's caused poor positioning in the parking lot. However, we had a good turn out and had several "stop by" cars and "walk through" guests.
We also recapped our participation in the July 4th Parades in DuPont and Steilacoom. Very successful and great fun, we plan to do both these parades again next year.
Harold provided a financial report. $634.19, before a $50.00 payment to the SHEF for Dynos sponsored trophies. Harold reminded members on annual dues being due June 1st.

New Business: (Upcoming Events)
We talked about our upcoming participation in the Steilacoom Historical Education Fund (S.H.E.F.) Car Show, Saturday, July 19th. Jim and Carol went over our jobs and responsibilities, to include that the Club will sponsor five trophies in the show called "We Like Your Ride".

NEXT Dynos Cruise-In will be Thursday, July 30th at McNamera's in DuPont.
Next Meeting: WEDNESDAY, August 12th, at 7PM - Location to be determined,
we'll send an email reminder.
Thanks,
Rick Patterson

JUNE 2009 Meeting Notes:
Meeting held at Carr's Restaurant.  VP Chris Spurbeck officiated, in the absence of Pres. Rick Patterson.

Chris reviewed the plan for the Dupont July 4th Parade, and Jim added details about Steilacoom.  The club will participate in both parades, at the fron of Dupont's, and at the rear of Steilacoom's.
We reviewed who will participate, and we expect at least 12 cars!

Concern was expressed about possibly missing the opportunity to participate in the Dupont Military Appreciation Day on June 13th.  Jim rallied the "troops", and we agreed on up to five members who will be there with cars.  Ken will follow up with the event officials, and coordinate with Jim.

Gary, Bruce and Jim have met with the folks at Farelli's, and they are excited to help host our cruise-ins this summer in Dupont.  Ken agreed to make promotional flyers, and circulate pdf files so that members can have copies to pass out at other events.

The members present discussed and agreed on changing the monthly meeting day to the second WEDNESDAY of each month, instead of Tuesday.  There is a new member we would like to include who has a commitment every Tuesday.  We will seek approval with the Club President, then begin with the new date on August 12th.  July's meeting will be on Tuesday, July 14th.

That's it!  Thanks, Ken Bollman

*****
We meet again on Tuesday, June 9th at 7pm at Carr's Restaurant in Lakewood, same location as the May meeting.  The address is 11006 Bridgeport Way SW.
The next meeting on July 14th will likely be at Bruce's shop in Lakewood.

May 2009 Meeting Notes:
Thanks for attending the May Meeting of the DuPont Dynos.

The meeting was held at Carr's Restaurant in Lakewood. Great place and just the right atmosphere.

First, we talked about coming events and activities. Jim Beckwith covered
the S.H.E.F. show and we again emphasized the need for helpers on Friday
night (couple of hours), Saturday evening for set-up and early Sunday
morning (starting at about 6AM) for getting signs out, etc. Ken prepared
list of volunteers, but a commitment is still needed. The show runs until
3pm and the work goes on. Break down and clean up isn't pretty, but
necessary. Jim is also looking for DuPont Dynos to assist with Judging for the 5 trophies we will be sponsoring.

Next Ken talked about our Cruise-In schedule for this summer. The dates will start on Thursday, June 25th at about 5PM. The exact location is still being considered, but probably around or near Farrelli's Pizza (Wilmington and Center, DuPont). The second date would be July 30th, followed by August 27th and September 24th, if we go that far. We will be evaluating the success of each. Ken asked for a Cruise-In Chairperson to volunteer and happily Gary Lynch "volunteered", with Bruce Judson as chief "back-up".

Next, we talked about the 4th of July Parades (DuPont and Steilacoom) We
will put out more detailed information soon, but line up for DuPont begins at 10AM and Parade at 11. We should finish by about 1200 noon, then make the run to Steilacoom, in time to line up (probably last) for the 1PM Parade start there.

Ken also asked for the additional volunteers to help with other Club
functions. Linda Smith volunteered to keep the Membership roster up to date.
We conducted nominations for Club Officer positions as specified in the Club By-Laws. Only one nomination was received from the floor for each of the three offices. Rick Patterson was nominated for President. Chris Spurbeck was nominated for Vice President and Harold Schmidt was nominated for Treasurer. Since no other nominations were forthcoming and since only a simple majority is needed, we determined that we would go ahead a vote. All three nominations were voted into one year terms of office.  Congratulations Rick, Chris and Harold.

Jim Beckwith announced Summer Fest 09, the Fort Steilacoom Park Car Show,
Saturday, June 20, 11am to 4pm. Flyers were distributed. Ron Smith announced the Classy Chassis Car Show at Fort Lewis, July 4th, from 10am to 3pm. Ron also mentioned that this event is part of Freedom Fest, a bigger event that goes into the evening with Live Music, food, kids activities and concludes with a great fireworks show.

Ron also mentioned a new website for parts. Looks like they are just getting started, so watch for: http://www.classiccarpartsclassifieds.com

Also mentioned as "coming up" in the DuPont Community, the "We Love our
Military" day, Saturday, June 13th from 1130am to 5pm. We talked about
checking to see if a few cars from the DuPont Dynos would be welcome. I will call/email Councilmen Larry Wilcox and get a reading.

Harold Schmidt (your new and old Treasurer) reported our financial health
and wealth at $413.80 as of this date. REMEMBER - June is dues month. Come prepared with a twenty (thats $20.) at the June meeting.

If I have missed anything in this summary of the meeting, please email me.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, June 9th at Bruce Judson's Garage in Steilacoom. We may do a potluck BBQ, depending on weather. Hold on to your hats for an update soon.

-Rick (your same old president)
